Tap is an exciting rhythmical dance style that is truly American. While many teachers have tried to imitate the “Earle Cobb” style of tap, this is its only true home. As students progress, they study many different varieties of tap dancing.
Tap dance is characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor. The sound is made by shoes that have a metal “tap” on the heel and toe. There are several major variations on tap dance including: flamenco, rhythm (jazz) tap, classical tap, Broadway tap, and post-modern tap
Tap is an art form where the dancer’s feet become the musical instrument. Tap is a uniquely American art form with a rich history of improvisation among masterful tappers creating new steps. Studying tap develops musicality, balance, and coordination
This course draw from both the Broadway and the contemporary Rhythm-Tap styles and begin with a foot isolating warm-up, followed by rhythm and step-based skill building in both the center of the room and moving across the floor.
This fun class will teach dancers the history of tap as well as time steps, rhythm tap, and combinations of steps and sounds. Tap is more than just making sounds with your feet. It is about expressing yourself, percussively, with your feet and body, making music, and making statements.
