Course Details

Diploma In Telecommunications Technitian provides hands on training and theoretical foundation in telecommunication technology. Students will learn to install, repair and maintain telecommunication, network and data cable line.

The diploma also covers basic to advance topics in electrical circuits with focus on AC and DC fundamentals, telephone systems, VOIP, Radio Frequency, and antennas.

The diploma also covers topics in networking with courses such as data communication and training in CCNA.

This diploma covers several types of telecommunication methods, including wired technologies like broadband and fibre optics, as well as free hand technologies like wireless and satellite.

Knowledge & Skills Gained

Knowledge includes training in telecommunication and networking, data and network cabling, fiber optics, electrical devices, telephone networks, radio and satelletie communcations, CCNA, mobile communication, satellite communications, and broadband technologies.

This prepares students to be employed as computer and telecommunication technicians with engineering, manufacturing and telecommunications firms, in information technology consulting firms, by governmental, educational and research institutions and in information technology units throughout the private and public sectors.

Program Outline

Telecommunications Technician - During this program of study, the students gains both theoretical and practical training in the required courses.Student Success Strategy - Trains on techniques and skills to achieve success in personal and professional life.

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Introduces word processing, spread sheets, PowerPoint presentations.

English I - Develops college-level grammar, vocabulary, sentence variety, paragraph structure, reading, and writing skills, which are necessary for success in all other courses.

Professional Skills - Prepares students with every aspect of their transition into their new career by identifying and teaching essential business and interpersonal skills.

Students receive in class lectures, as well as a private one-on-one appointment with a Career Services specialist to perfect their resume package and interviewing skills.

Electrical Circuit I - The course introduces with concepts in direct current along with the concepts of voltage, current, and resistance in series and parallel circuits.

The course covers the application of Ohms law and Kirchhoff’s current law in series and parallel circuits and concepts in magnetism and electromagnetism with focus on DC generators and DC motors.

Electrical Circuit II - The course introduces concepts in Alternate Current and prepares students to apply basic circuit laws to resistive AC circuits, identify the characteristics of basic sinusoidal and nonsinusoidal waveforms, analyze series and parallel RC/RL and RLC circuits.

Electrical Circuit III - The course describes different electrical devices theory and applications. It introduces the basic structure of semiconductors and its operations to conduct current, troubleshoot power supplies and diode circuits, using the APM approach.

Students will learn the basic operation of a differential amplifier, and analyze the operation of several types of oscillators, and temperature measuring circuits.Fundamentals of Telecommunications  - The course covers the fundamental aspects of the telecommunication.

It covers Modulation Techniques and Analog Circuits, Amplifiers, Oscillators, Frequency-Selective Circuits, Transmitters and Receivers.

Digital Communications and Telephone Networks  - The course also covers topics in wireless communication, Telephone Systems, Communication Links and Protocols, Mobile and Cellular Data Networks, Internet, IP Telephony, Modem technologies and ISDN.

Radio and Satellite Communications  - The course outlines the concepts of modern network theory to wave guiding systems, analyze and design microwave resonators, analyze waveguides structures and standard antenna characterization parameters, and able to compute radiation from several common antenna structures.

Cabling Fundamentals - Cabling fundamentals cover general cabling systems, and offers comprehensive coverage on current wired and fiber optic cabling methodologies.

Network Cabling - The course provides knowledge in basic active components of a network for commercial buildings along with network design and installation, important cable plant certification guidelines, cable testing tools and elements of a successful cable installation.

Fibre Optics - This course provides the students the knowledge of optical networks. The students learn the architecture, network designing, switching, routing, and designing of optical networks.

CCNA - Introduces to WAN connection, implementing network security, network types, network media, routing and switching fundamentals, the TCP/IP and OSI models, IP addressing, WAN technologies, operating and configuring IOS devices, extending switched networks with VLANs, determining IP routes, managing IP traffic with access lists, establishing point to point connections and establishing Frame Relay connections.

Capstone Project for Telecommunications - This capstone project provides a hands-on learning experience for students to work independently on a specialized topic from telecommunications.

This is to prepare the student to articulate their relevant know-how and skills with the help of a business presentation. The student will write a written report on the project and will also make an oral presentation, including answering questions from the audience.
