These nine days of learning are a combination of experiential learning mixed with a wide variety of models that can be applied to develop individual leadership capacities. However, the learning also requires a deep amount of self-reflection.
Phonse MacNeil and Tim Brodie are the facilitators for this new leadership program developed exclusively for the Atlantic Police Academy. Drawing from the leadership principles of the Canadian Forces combined with the operational needs of a public safety culture, the learners explore topics like the 10 principles of leadership and other relationship models designed to create high performance teams in operationally stressful environments.
Years of research on the current trends impacting police organizations throughout the Atlantic region culminated in the combination of traditional lessons with up-to-date evidence-based processes that create this innovative and reflective program. Through extensive connections and interviews with police members we have developed a program that best fits the leadership needs of a modern police team.
These nine days of learning are a combination of experiential learning mixed with a wide variety of models that can be applied to develop individual leadership capacities. However, the learning also requires a deep amount of self-reflection. The facilitators pose questions around the essential skills of a successful leader in contrast to the natural strengths and unconscious blind spots of the learners.
Part of the learning experience will use tested personality and behaviour inventories to allow for deeper discussions including stress inventories, personality style assessments and emotional intelligences metrics. True leadership development simply does not happen without deep self-reflection and we incorporate the tools to do that. We will apply the Big Five personality styles indicator and the PXT Select Inventory process to name only two of the multiple inventories that will help discover the path to the applied science of leadership in a public safety environment.
On completion of the course, the participants are offered the opportunity to complete an organizational project customized for their own team by applying the skills and knowledge acquired during the training. Both Phonse MacNeil and Tim Brodie will provide coaching and mentorship for the full six months of the project.
From theory to knowledge acquisition to project implementation the learners are supported completely. There simply is no other leadership development learning experience like this.
Outcomes:
The Academy founder, Tim Brodie, came from a military background, with 30 years of experience in the Canadian Forces. On his retirement he moved to a police environment, providing support to the RCMP.
He quickly realized an important lesson: the military is a training environment that goes operational while the police is an operational environment that tries to squeeze in training. That's the niche requirement that the Academy was founded on.
We can develop the perfect combination of relaxation and stimulating training for leaders at any level.
Carefully crafted to enable you to learn both about leadership and how to lead, this interactive course brings you on a development journey in which you learn about yourself, develop your leadership skills (applying learning as you go), and – working with classmates – learn by doing.
Supervisors represent an important force in the economy. You have the power to turn on or turn off the productivity of the people who report to you. You are the crucial interface between the employee on the shop floor or the service desk and the managers of the organization.
Leadership is often discussed, eloquently described, but not easily practiced. Leadership involves calculated-risk taking, innovative problem-solving, exceptional interpersonal skills and effective communication.
You are taking on a new role, planning the next stage of your career, starting your own business or leading a major change initiative. Leadership is exhilarating and enriching. It can also be lonely and challenging.
