During your first few weeks with STEP, the parent, too, will learn the basics of how to play and care for the instrument, all to better support your child's musical education
All STEP students are assigned to a STEP private teacher for weekly private lessons. From September through to June, students will receive approximately 30 lessons, typically 30 minutes in length.
Lesson lengths may increase as your child grows and develops. These private lessons are held at our teachers' home studios throughout the St. John's metro area, and are scheduled at a mutually convenient time for both the family and teacher.
Lesson fees varies by teacher and may range between $80-$120 per month. All scheduling and billing for private lessons is handled directly by your private teacher.
One parent also attends each private lesson to take notes and be active in the learning process. This will help the parent guide the daily practice sessions at home.

The Suzuki Talent Education Program offers a complete string music education for children in violin, viola, and cello. Based in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, STEP has been the foundation of string playing in our community for close four decades & is the province's only Suzuki music education program.
Private and group lessons are available for children 3 and up, and Suzuki Early Childhood Education classes are available for babies and toddlers. String playing starts with STEP!
Mission & Vision:
Our mission is to teach children music through Shinichi Suzuki’s philosophies and principles of natural learning and inspire a deep appreciation for art, humanity, and traditional culture in Newfoundland and Labrador.
We believe that all children's hearts and musical abilities can be nurtured through Suzuki music education, and strive to make our program accessible and inclusive to all families.
All students study technique including scales and studies and a varied repertoire appropriate to their level of ability
The Violin is the largest section in an orchestra for a reason: when the strings soar our hearts and emotions are lifted with joy.
Students will be able to play along to the provided accompaniments (way more fun than playing alone!) and will gain experience in many different styles such as classical, fiddle, and popular music
Students can study a wide range of musical genres from classical and popular, to traditional fiddle music
We offer individual, group and introductory music lessons for a multitude of instruments
