Course Description
Warehouses are the points in the supply chain where product pauses briefly and is touched. Warehouses consume both space and time (person-hours), both of which are an expense.
Modern warehouses are an essential component of the supply chain puzzle as warehouses provide the value-added role, for instance, reverse logistics, kitting, refurbishment, mixing, repair, etc.
In this course, students will learn about the value-added roles of warehouses, warehousing activities, storage and handling equipment, the role of communication technologies, people management and the latest warehouse trends.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
DESCRIBE the role of warehousing in the supply chain as a value-added activity.
EXPLAIN the importance of inventory, stock analysis and control, and product classification.
DESCRIBE the warehouse operating principles.
IDENTIFY different storage and handling equipment used in the warehouses.
DESCRIBE warehouse communication technologies and regulations.
DESCRIBE contemporary warehousing issues related to outsourcing, cost, service level and regulations.
DESCRIBE importance of people management and development trends.
