1984- EVERGLADES, FLORIDA – My firearms training started in a less-than-conventional way! Well before even my US Army training, some 38 years ago, at the age of twelve I was barely strong enough to pull the trigger of a Vietnam Era Colt 1911 or withstand the recoil of an AR15A1.
Almost every weekend, I would train alongside my father who at the time was the “Chief Of Military Operations” at Alpha 66 Training Camp called “RUMBO SUR.” In English, it was called “Camp Due South” and sometimes filled with battle-hardened warriors such as Cuban American Bay of Pig Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans.
These men and women never lost hope in the idea of another American-backed invasion after the Bay of Pigs. The members were holding themselves in readiness to support an uprising within Cuba.
Training included force on force, rifle marksmanship, land navigation, insertions, and extractions by sea. They would carry out small-unit action against enemy targets and lastly, instilled military leadership and mindset.
Training is beyond the basics to teach the student the skills, and attitude necessary to Carry a concealed pistol for Personal Protection. This Course will first takes place.
