The DANK Haus German American Cultural Center is a 501(c)3 Non-For-Profit Organization. Our mission is to preserve and promote German culture, heritage, and language through maintaining a center consisting of a museum, art gallery, library, and language school, and organizing educational and social programming focusing on.

And emphasizing the history, traditions, and contributions of Germans and German Americans. Learn more about our organization's cultural center and building structure timeline throughout the years. Our vision to meaningfully engage generations of friends, neighbors, and all those interested, to explore and experience the vibrant, multifaceted German American culture of our past and present. 

Our Haus has 77,000 square feet of surprises! We have a fully operational school, community room, four bars, ballroom, art gallery, museum, and more! Read about the architect, Paul Gerhardt. We first opened our doors in 1959 as a lobbying organization to support German Americans. Since then, we have grown to be a cornerstone of the Lincoln Square community and beyond.

German (Beginner 1)

Learn German within the comfort of our Haus! This class is meant for absolute beginners and meets up at the DANK Haus every Wednesday for a 14-week-period. By the end of the class you will be able to hold a simple conversation, and have an understanding of basic grammar.
