I have 20 years-experience supporting people to make positive changes in their lives. Over this period I have held various roles within voluntary sector including: Mental Health Job Retention Specialist; Peer Support Coordinator and Lived Experience Team Leader.
Throughout this time I have continuously worked in a 1:1 setting working with clients with complex, chaotic lives helping them to develop the skills and confidence to make positive changes in their work and personal lives.
Since the late 1990’s there have been times when I have struggled with depression, anxiety and social anxiety. During this time I have learnt many things about myself and about other people.
My own personal journey has been very positively impacted by my use of various Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques and the training I have undertaken.
You will find that I am calm, positive and an excellent listener. One of my key skills is my ability to quickly cut through the layers and get to the key issues for a client, coming up with a set of practical suggestions of ways to move forward.
I believe that nature has played and continues to play a huge part in my own recovery, development and work as a personal coach. Coaching sessions in nature help me to feel calm and grounded, I feel that I can perform at my best surrounded by greenery.
I tend to be at my best in nature and spend lots of my free time camping, cycling, canoeing and walking in nature, I feel very blessed to be in a position to work with clients in a setting I love.
For my clients working in nature can make difficult conversations about difficult subjects easier. Generally, we are more open to learning and change when we are in a calm relaxed state of mind (I often use relaxation techniques during sessions), this state can often be more easily achieved under the calming influence of the natural environment.
I have also noticed that for some clients for whom being the focus in a 1:1 session can be challenging or even embarrassing walking in woodland, for example, can offer a more manageable environment.
