The Department of Environmental Health and Safety, previously known as Occupational Health and Safety, was established in 1979 with the specific charge of ensuring that UAB comply with occupational and environmental health and safety rules and regulations necessary to conduct research involving hazardous materials. We have expanded immensely since inception and now encompass a variety of program areas that you will find within this site.

To ensure that our customers have a safe workplace by providing them with the service and knowledge necessary to protect themselves, the UAB community, and the environment.

To accomplish voluntary compliance in all areas of our program through implementation of internal health and safety programs.
