Hola I’m Maribel, an experienced Spanish teacher from Perú based in Lower Hutt. I’ve been teaching Spanish since 2008 both in language schools and privately, in Germany, Perú, and since 2015 in New Zealand. I’ve taught a wide range of students from absolute beginners to conversation level and also helped students prepare for international exams.

My mother tongue is Spanish and besides English I also speak German at an upper intermediate level and can understand basic French and Portuguese. Having learned several foreign languages myself I can understand very well what a person learning a new language goes through and the challenges it can present.

In my experience students learn best when they feel comfortable in a supportive learning environment which is what I always try to achieve with my classes. I provide a relaxed space where students can feel confident and have fun while they learn. I think of every class as unique and when preparing my classes I aim to adapt them for the students attending, whether it be a private or group class.

Each class is taught at the appropriate pace for the students rather than strictly following a curriculum. I’ve been very lucky to have travelled a bit in different countries and learned from different cultures. Now I’m settled in New Zealand with my family and have the opportunity to share Latin American culture, customs, and traditions as well as the language with my students.
