Infrastructure

The School's History

The École des beaux-arts de Québec was founded in 1922. The field of visual arts in the National Capital has since experienced a marked evolution, with the inauguration of several museums and galleries showcasing local artists. and by the way. A fundamental step in the development of artistic training in Quebec, the École des beaux-arts closed its doors in 1970. Arts education was now integrated into Université Laval with the creation of the École des arts visuels.

In 1994, the School of Visual Arts moved downtown, in the heart of the Saint-Roch district, in one of the most beautiful industrial architectures of the late 19th century, the La Fabrique building.

In May 2012, the Faculty received the approval of the board of directors of Université Laval to begin the establishment of a School of Design. The School of Design coexists with the School of Art in the La Fabrique building, in the heart of the Saint-Roch district. Established in its natural environment, the School intends to promote links with many professionals and collaborate with various associations and actors in the design world.
