Welcome to NYC Korean School. As the Principal of our school, I would like to address my hopes for our school’s future. More than anything, it is my vision to build a stronger school and stronger community. There may be different ways to achieve such excellence but I would like to start with the faculty.

We want to recognize the teachers for not only the many layers of work going into each Saturday class but for all the layers behind each class, each semester, and each year. This will also help to establish financial transparency, fair work assignment, broader opportunities, and eventually higher retention of our teachers.

I sincerely believe the higher retention of our teachers is one of the key points in building a stronger community. Higher retention of teachers is not a small feat, as experience tells us. We want to build a school where teachers can grow alongside of our students. Therefore, our teachers can teach our students “not just another language” but develop integrity, goodness, and pride in our students.

In time, we will enhance the retention with more opportunities for our teachers, such as teachers’ exchange programs, extensive summer workshops, leadership conferences, and possible expansion to weekday after-school programs. Inspiring our teachers will generate spiraling enthusiasm and joy in learning from our students.

In addition, we plan to build a school where we can systemically and sustainably support our students through stronger community involvement. We like to begin by forming a responsible, trustworthy, and active Board. Our school shall focus on our students first.

Our number one goal will be developing our students as healthy individuals and as members of society, someone who values their heritage and, at the same time, values the difference they bring to the community they share. A strong board with clear goal and conviction can guide our community and enrich the experience our students can have.

We also want to implement innovative infrastructure to help sustain our growing community. We want to be confident that our students and graduate will go forth from an institution that affirms their identity, fosters community involvement, and provides a platform to serve in their community.

We plan to incorporate more IT-friendly classes, social media, and consistent database maintenance to stay connected with every facet of our community, especially our alumni network. One of the most powerful benefits at our school will be the lifelong friendships our students will make and the collaborative community that enables and empowers our students to advance through positive network and continuous development.
