Old School Boxing

Old School Boxing Gym opened in August of 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona.  With the rise in popularity of combat sports, we needed to provide a place to box—not a fitness center with boxing classes but a boxing gym—to learn the sport and compete.

A local gym near me, where everyone is welcome and everyone can learn how to box no matter what level, age, gender or nationality.

Old School Boxing Gym was named after a boxing coach that we have all looked up to and admired.  Sam “Old School” “Thin Man” Morris... still trains and coaches young women and men out of Pro Edge off Camelback and 16th street in Phoenix, Arizona.

I love that man.  If you happen meet Sam, let him know. The crowd at the Old School Boxing Gym said, “Hey!”.  He was the inspiration that motivated Old School Boxing Gym to become a reality.  Without his infectious enthusiasm for the sport of boxing, this gym would have never happened.

Back a few years, we had a morning crew of mostly guys but a few females as well that came into the boxing gym at that time to train, spar, and work early, like 5am.  Loved it. I loved the work. Loved the people.

It was cool. It was a good time.  Unfortunately, the morning crew didn’t last more than a year with the boxing gym, and the owners wanted to move in a different direction in combat sports.  It was perfectly understandable to do what’s right for the business. 

But what do we do? Where do we go? What boxing gym would open up for us in the mornings and that early?  Could we get a key so we can come and go as we please? 

Most local boxing gyms opened in the afternoons or evenings, and those that were available in the mornings weren’t willing to hand over a key to their boxing gym to a bunch of strangers.
