About Oxford Sail Training
Oxford Sail Training is situated on Farmoor Reservoir. Farmoor is approximately 5 miles to the west of Oxford, between the villages of Cumnor, Farmoor and Eynsham. With easy access from the A34, A40, A420 Oxford, we have one of the premier inland water sports facilities in southern England.
The lake is situated in an elevated position above the wide expanses of the upper Thames flood plain, so we have excellent conditions from the prevailing winds.
There is excellent and plentiful car parking on-site, and a large clubhouse with good showers and changing facilities, plus easy launching from a large concrete beach.
We are an RYA, ALAA & BCU recognised Training Centre, and offer a range of approved sailing, windsurfing, powerboating, SUP, Kayak, VHF and first aid courses. All courses are run by qualified Instructors who have completed centre training to provide a great & safe experience.
Equipment
We provide buoyancy aids, helmets and handbooks for adult beginner courses. You will need plenty of warm clothing and waterproofs, some non-slip footwear which can get wet and sunscreen. Full details will be sent with your joining instructions.
On the shore
There is a modern shore-side teaching facility with video and visual aids as well as sailing simulators. The clubhouse overlooks the water, with heated changing rooms, hot showers and vending machines for snacks and hot drinks.
On the water
Sailing takes place on the 380 acres of Farmoor, an elevated reservoir with a purpose built beach for easy launching and recovery. We have a large fleet of boats, to suit the wind conditions and your ability.
Many students go on to join Oxford Sailing Club and enjoy sailing all year round. However, this is not essential as there is a good choice of sailing clubs in the area, each with a different feel. There is bound to be one to suit you once you can sail.
