SETA stands for Southampton Engineering Training Association Ltd. SETA was established in 1969 as a Company Limited by Guarantee (not for profit with no issued shares) and is a registered charity (Charity Commission No 307299), directed by an executive council of leaders elected by our members.
The training centre in Millbrook, Southampton was opened by Earl Mountbatten of Burma and has continuously managed apprenticeship programmes and delivered upskilling and engineering training to both apprentices and adults.
We provide accredited, industry-recognised training to an advanced level, delivered by highly experienced staff with vast industry knowledge, and have been playing a key role in developing and transforming workforces for some 50 years.
We offer a range of commercial courses for the engineering sector alongside the apprenticeship programmes we deliver, including City & Guilds electrical courses, CCNSG courses, CompEx courses, Welding, Machining, Safe Use of Equipment and Forklift training to name a few. We are a recognised AM2 assessment centre and an EAL approved centre for assessing adult NVQs in the workplace.
We remain committed to quality engineering training for young people and have built links with local schools to try and encourage them into the industry. We hold an open events each year providing the opportunity to come in and look around our workshops, meet the staff and some of our employers.
The course is designed to instruct delegates in the safe use of cranes, hoists & lifting equipment with the necessary background, theory & practice.
The course primarily is of a practical nature, focusing on the safety aspects of Safe Fork Truck Driving, although there is an element of theory that must be completed.
The course is split into eleven modules (listed below) and after successful completion the student will be issued with the Safety Passport, which is valid for three years.
The course has been designed to be informative and interactive, moving on from the legalistic and legislative aspects already covered in the two day basic course.
This course deals with the safety aspects of working with abrasive wheels and conforms to the requirements of The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and HSG17. It allows staff to use abrasive wheels whilst in your employment.
