The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville was established in 1963 by enactment of the General Assembly as part of a statewide system of 26 schools whose purpose is to provide work specific training to prepare citizens for employment.

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville designs and offers programs that are responsive to local business and industry needs. The College was operated by the Knoxville City School System under contract with the Tennessee Board of Education from 1966 to 1984 when the operation of the College was assumed by the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Our College is one of 37 institutions in the Board of Regents System, the sixth largest system of higher education in the nation with an enrollment of over 200,000 students. The Tennessee Board of Regents is the governing board of 6 universities, 13 community colleges, and 24 TCAT’s.

The faculty and staff of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville believe that technical education should provide a well-balanced program of study that includes academic knowledge, skills, work experience, and development of attitudes needed by the individual to obtain employment, to compete in the global economy, and to be competitive in the workplace.
