Acrobatic Dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements.
Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line, and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context.
Townsville and the district were truly blessed when Robyn and husband Doug Gilchrist created the Croft Gilchrist School Of Dancing. From the central location all lovers of dance, from tiny tots, teenagers and even adults could learn professional dance skills from the principal of the school, Robyn Croft, a foundation member of the Australian Ballet and dancer in the Royal Ballet.
Robyn has enjoyed the privilege of helping many others develop the extra confidence, poise and better co-ordination using the art of dance.
Many of her students have made a career out of their developed skills. Many others have used these talents in associated fields and others have just simply enjoyed their new found creativity as part of a richly rewarded lifestyle. Robyn Croft has a passion for dance and this is melded into all of her students – either the young or young at heart.
This class will teach correct techniques for acrobatic elements. We will be running three dedicated classes based on ability and age.
Incorporates gymnastic movements encouraging strength, flexibility, balance, limbering and tumbling both individually and with partners. We offer a very safe syllabus based on skill progression, where students have the option for sitting exams with Acrobatic Arts.
We all know the value of practising at home, but imagine if you could practise under the guidance of your instructors, with plenty of room to move, and access to specialist equipment just for dancers and acrobats!
These classes are split into ability levels and determined by the skill of the dancer. Starting levels will be assessed by the our qualified Acrobatic Arts teacher in the first week of classes.
In Acrobatics classes, students will work to improve their flexibility and strength of movement which assists in developing the strong and versatile dancer. Starting with the basics, such as cartwheels and handstands, students will work their way up to more complex acrobatic combinations.
