Afrobeats dance is a diverse and fascinating style originating predominantly from Sub-Saharan Africa. It is an evolution from traditional African dance styles following the creation of Afrobeats music.

The dance style was developed as a response to the genre’s incredibly energetic and upbeat rhythm. It’s a fast-paced, fun style of dance that works every part of the body.

  • L. Adjetey Klufio was born in a small town in Ghana called La(Accra, Ghana). He credits his early training to the National Dance Company of Ghana (Ghana Dance Ensemble) where he trained for over ten years, five of which he was a principal dancer, soloist and acted as an assistant to the director. During this time, Adjetey was awarded the dancer of the year by the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana twice, in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Adjetey has performed both on the national and international levels. Adjetey was part of the 2008 CAF Cup of Nations which was held in Ghana as one of the assistant choreographers. In 2011, he was part of the executive committee for the ECOWAS games held in Ghana. Among his performing credits with the company includes the opportunity to perform for three United States Presidents Including: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barak Obama. In 2012, Mr. Klufio performed with Dance Africa at the BAM Theatre in New York City. His performance was described, by the New York Times, as “…spectacular and subtle…” In 2018, the Baltimore Sun described his performance at the Afrotempo performance as “Flying through the air with his energy”. Adjetey is a full-time faculty at Goucher college and a party time faculty at Anne Arundel Community College. Adjetey Klufio is the founder and the artistic director of Afrondani, a dance company based in the DMV area. Adjetey earned his BFA from Towson University, whilst he was there, he was nominated by the dance department for the BEULAH awards in 2019. Adjetey has been accepted into Wilson college to pursue his MFA in choreography.
