This is a preparation for work unit, which is based on capability and knowledge. The unit teaches the particular skills involved in preparing for and applying nail enhancements.
The knowledge and skills gained in this unit includes the preparation for and application, maintenance and removal of UV gel, wraps, liquid and powder nail enhancement systems.
Learners will use a range of products tools and equipment including:
adhesives
tips
powders
primer oils
UV gels
natural nail cleansers and dehydrators
resins
setting agents
fibre glass
silk
polish
polish remover
acrylic liquid
sanitisers
brushes
tip cutters
cuticle tools
files
buffers
dappen dish
consumables

To carry out this unit, learners will need to maintain effective health, safety and hygiene procedures throughout their work.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on or before 1st of July in the year of proposed entry to course.
Applicants must have a satisfactory level of fluency in English, both written and spoken.
All leaners will also be required to purchase a kit and uniform.
What Will I Study?
Modules include:
Apply and maintain nail enhancements.
Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon.
How Will I Be Assessed?
The emphasis is on ‘learning by doing’. For this reason, candidates are required to complete a number of tasks and/or tests to show their attainment of practical skills and underpinning knowledge.
The summative assessments for the qualification require the candidate to undertake practical tasks, knowledge and understanding task(s) or online assessments.

On successful completion of the course, learners may progress to:
Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
Level 3 Diploma in Hair & Media Make-Up

This gel polish training course is for beginners and existing technicians looking to improve their skills. This is a one-day training course (with home study) and requires no previous experience. The course fee is £99 including manual or £225 including kit.
