Many other dance forms as well as physical activities such as gymnastics and skating recommend ballet because of the inherent qualities that are developed.
Students are trained in classical ballet through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, which progresses through the Graded levels: Pre Primary, Primary, Grades 1-8, and through Vocational Graded levels:
Starting at the Grade 2 level, students must enroll in two ballet classes per week. For the Covid - 19 year we are having dancers at the Grade 2 level attend once class a week. Students are eligible for exams at the recommendation of their teacher.
The graded levels concentrate on the exploration of movement, musicality, with the development of technique, artistry and self-discipline. Emphasis is placed on proper posture and alignment, correct and safe technique, and a genuine sense of performance.
Many other dance forms as well as physical activities such as gymnastics and skating recommend ballet because of the inherent qualities that are developed. At Dance Steps ballet is recommended to all students (but not mandatory) either to be studied on its own or to enhance a dancers’ training in other genres.
To ensure the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff, Dance Steps has implemented Covid - 19 procedures to diminish risks associated with the virus. We will follow guidelines outlined by the Ontario government and consequently these procedures may change and evolve over time with the guidelines.
Here are a few of the measure that we are taking. Please see below for more information. Additionally, we have made a video for you to see our studio in action.
Students will improve their listening skills, musicality, focus, and memory, while gaining a greater appreciation of how their bodies move in the space around them.
Our experienced ballet instructors Bernadette Shum and Linda Yap teach through the RAD method. Our higher-level classes are accompanied by a live pianist to complement your training.
Pointe class is an extension of our classical ballet program. Ballet dancers will support all of their body weight on the tips of fully extended feet within pointe shoes. Pointe classes are available for students who have completed Cecchetti II, enrolled in ballet and are at least 13 yrs old.
Dancers will study ballet technique in soft shoe and on pointe to classical music with a focus on grace, posture, balance, jumps, turns, extensions, and expression.
This method offers training for both recreational and competitive dancers in all of our programs.Â
