The Dance Studio of Park Slope offers three ballet classes weekly in a friendly, supportive and non-competitive environment:
 

Solid Beginner Ballet Workshop: is designed for students with knowledge of basic ballet techniques and who are able to execute them. This class helps students to deepen their understanding of proper placements, correct muscle usages, coordination of movements, and musicality.
 

Adv. Beginner / Intermediate Level class: on Wednesday is designed for experienced dancers with solid classical vocabulary and technique. This class focuses on refining placement, executing more intricate sequences, improving musicality, and maximizing individual dancer potential.

The Intermediate class encourages self-discipline, focus, persistence when challenged, fitness, memory skills, self-esteem; all while providing concrete ballet techniques in a friendly, professional environment.
 

Open Level class: on Saturday is designed for mixed-level students who are ready for the challenges of longer and more complex combinations of center floor work and wish to refine their musicality and transition of movements.

This class offers ample center practice with in adagio, turns, jumps and diagonals, all fully explained.

  • Setsuko Maruhashi was born and raised in Japan and started her ballet training at the age of eight. After moving to NY she added jazz, tap and modern to her dance training. In 1985, she became the first Asian Rockette at Radio City and performed in numerous productions, including: The Christmas Spectaculars, The Easter Shows, Super Bowl half-time show, Late Night with David Letterman and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She also performed in musicals and industrial shows. She holds a BA in dance from Empire State College, SUNY and is a certified personal trainer and an accredited Pilates instructor. Setsuko has been a faculty member in the Adult Program since June 2000. Setsuko’s gift for teaching has no boundaries and her contribution to both our Adult and Children’s Ballet Programs, immeasurable.
