From beginner to advance levels, the Shelley Shearer School of Dance offers a wide range of classes for any new student in Winnipeg. All instructors are qualified professional teachers who bring years of experience to each class in order to safely guide students through the art of Ballet.
We follow the internationally recognized syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Designed to enrich our students Ballet experience, you’ll find that we ensure the highest level of instruction and individual attention for each student, beginner or advanced.
At the beginning levels, students learn the foundation of Ballet technique. Proper dance posture, positions of the arms and feet and how to properly turn out their legs. Whether recreational or working towards a professional dance career.

Pointe is the most highly disciplined and physically challenging extension of ballet. Only technically proficient upper level students who have mastered the skills of basic and advanced movement will be selected to study pointe work.
Ballet originated in the sixteenth and seventeenth century French courts, and was further developed in England, Italy, and Russia as a concert dance form. Ballet develops strength, posture, flexibility, coordination and focus.
Ballet is often referred to as the “foundation of dance”. Dancers who study ballet are learning technique, terminology, and self-discipline.
Our Ballet program follows The Royal Academy of Dancing (R.A.D.) syllabus.The classes incorporate the traditional study of classical ballet with free movement and character dance.
The structure and discipline of ballet class allow students to develop balance, poise, flexibility and strength, which are necessary for all dance forms. Our ballet classes include both classical and lyrical combinations in order to broaden our student's exposure to different styles of ballet
