DurationSamba is an energetic and rhythmical style of music and dance which originates from Brazil. It is a quick, pulsating and lively dance with a rhythm that many people find intoxicatingly irresistible.
Not to be confused with Ballroom Samba which is extremely different, Samba as a dance form was created by the poor Afro-Brazilians and is today one of the most popular forms of music and dance in Brazil in fact; it is widely considered Brazil’s national musical style and dance.
Samba is synonymous with the Rio Carnival, a wild, annual four day celebration which takes place in Rio de Janeiro. The carnival celebrates Samba with a massive Samba parade. Every year hundreds of thousands of people travel from all corners of the world to experience the colour, music and excitement of Rio Carnival.

Samba de Gafieira is a fun and playful partner dance to the Brazilian samba musical rhythms. It is different from and must not be confused with the ballroom Samba, danced in International Latin and American Rhythm ballroom dance style.
Samba dance classes are offered by Arthur Murray Dance Studios. Originated in Brazil, the Samba imitates the celebratory, carnival feeling. Light on your feet with forward and backward steps, rocking your body in 4/4 time.
Learn Samba footwork and boost your confidence in this style.
Suitable for students that have no dance experience. This is a solo class introducing you firstly to the history and origin of Samba. Class focus is on learning the fundamentals. A break-down of the basic step, timing and isolating different parts of the body.
If the music reminds you of a Rio Carnival with lots of percussion, strings and some wind instruments (and is 2/4 timing) you are ready to Samba, Brazilian style.
