Learning takes place on-site at your workplace through practical work and tasks. Our licensed, qualified carpentry tutors do site visits to check your work and assessments, then sign off your modules.
You will need to attend three week-long block courses each year. The block courses can vary in length and may involve day classes and night school. As a student, you will also have access to Moodle, our student learning platform, to upload your work evidence and access resources.
Wintec is part of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology, together with all the other polytechnics in New Zealand.
From 2023, all Wintec learners will be enrolled with Te Pūkenga, instead of Wintec. Right now, our people will continue to support our learners. They will still be enrolled in the same qualification and will continue to learn in the same way, in the same place, with the same people.
Being a part of Te Pūkenga means we will be more connected to the other organisations delivering vocational and applied education in Aotearoa New Zealand and we will work with them to share skills and knowledge to better help you succeed.

With this pre-trade qualification you will gain skills and knowledge applicable to a wide range of construction related trades. Graduates can go into an apprenticeship.
This is an introductory woodwork skills course, but people with woodwork knowledge and their own project, who want access to woodwork tools and advice may join. The course outlines woodwork skills
Participants will need to be able to carry their project a short distance from their car into the workshop and then back again to be stored at home between lessons. Participants should wear comfortable clothes, closed toe shoes and jewellery that will not get caught in any machinery.

Build foundational skills as you complete set projects and your own designs in wood. This course can lead to advanced woodwork at Hagley and tertiary study in furniture making, cabinet-making, joinery, and construction.
