For over four decades, Halifax Dance, a registered charity, has been a nationally recognized leader in dance education. Halifax Dance is an integral part of our region's artistic life, educating dancers of all ages and abilities.
Our teachers actively work in the profession, as performers, choreographers and educators, and love sharing their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with their students.
In this class, you will explore a unique blend of contemporary movement. The class includes an in-depth warm-up, technique, choreography, and improvisation to encourage students to explore their own movement and interpretations.
Our staff teach a blend of various modern styles based on their personal background, drawing from the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association syllabus, Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus, Limon, Graham, Horton, Cunningham, Freestyle, Contemporary and Lyrical.
Modern is a highly flexible form of dance that lends itself beautifully to the expression of a dancers thoughts and feelings in a way that uniquely represents their individuality.
Both lyrical & Contemporary are a fusion of ballet & jazz technique. Dancers use fluid, continuous & graceful motion to express feelings conveyed through the story & emotion of a piece of music.
Dancers can develop lifetime friendships and gain confidence all the while learning the art of dance.
