In 2015, JDNZ (Jazz Dance New Zealand) introduced Contemporary medal exams and we will be offering these for our students this year.
DurationContemporary classes are offered to students from approximately 9 years old. A background in ballet or jazz is not needed for contemporary dance.
Students are taught non-syllabus work which now can lead towards sitting a NZAMD medal test and/or JDNZ medal exam. In 2015, JDNZ (Jazz Dance New Zealand) introduced Contemporary medal exams and we will be offering these for our students this year.
With each class the teacher will compile work to suit the level of the students. Although students may spend more than a year or so in on “level” (e.g. Beginner) the work the teacher prepares will be to the level that our students require.

Past pupils from the school have gone on to train full time and dance, in both New Zealand and abroad, as well as current students training at the New Zealand School of Dance in their Associate Program.
Dance classes are tailored for pre-schoolers through to advanced students. The fun and supportive environment with its’ emphasis on enjoyment ensures students feel comfortable as they learn to dance.

We offer open contemporary classes that allow to develop skill that will support NCEA classes and take you on to further full-time training.

Contemporary dance utilizes both ballet and modern movement. Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used, as well as forms a creative dance expression.
