The levels are made up of a series of exercises including including; pliƩ and spine articulation, port de bras, swings and suspension, rolling progression, travelling progressions, floor sequences, turns, leaps, compositions and dances.

Conditioning work (often including a swiss ball) is included to develop core and upper body strength, increase turn-out and improve strength and control.
Partner work is included throughout all grades to develop physical trust, spatial awareness and dancer connection. This is an important and unique component of contemporary dance.
Improvisation is included to encourage freedom of movement in the junior levels. Student choreography is incorporated at higher levels to develop musical connection and expression.

This class will be taken by renowned dancer and choreographer, Kilda Northcott (founding member of Limbs). For students aged from 11 years upwards.
Students have the option to sit JDNZ (Jazz Dance New Zealand) Lyrical medal tests. Classes are available to students who already have dance experience in Jazz or Ballet.
It focuses on Contemporary principles such as weight, flow, movement and gravity, encouraging students to focus on freedom of movement and spatial awareness.
Our Contemporary dance classes follow an in-house syllabus which allows for greater freedom and flexibility of training.
At LDA we offer the NZAMD Contemporary syllabus, created by world famous New Zealand Contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher Ann Dewey.
