Students will engage with the defining movement concepts of modern dance including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore contemporary dance practices, and processes through combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation.
The Houston Metropolitan Dance Center is a non-profit corporation organized under the laws of the State of Texas and a 501 (c)(3) organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Code is dedicated to the arts and the development of contemporary dance.

Contemporary dance class is offered by Artevivo Dance Studio for all ages and levels. We offer Master & Open Classes, Videos, National Competitions, Shows, Events, & Performances.
Come feel the feels. Each class will begin with a dedicated warm up and stretch, with a new combo each week. Expect contemporary movement ranging from slinky spines, to quirky intricacies, and maybe a ballet-infused gesture or two.
Students will focus on contractions, spirals, basic floor work, and elemental concepts of space, time and force. They will also build core strength and flexibility in a fun and encouraging environment.
Contemporary and lyrical are two extraordinarily expressive forms of dance, which is why we sometimes teach them in a combined class at DanceHouse Miami. Unlike other styles, lyrical and contemporary dance have few rules and restrictions. This is what makes them such a joy to perform and to watch.
Contemporary dance is an expressive style of dance that utilizes elements of different dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. It doesn’t have fixed or established movement patterns but it’s rather in a continuous search for new forms and dynamics
