It’s never too late to start dancing! Join ODS family for our beginner’s and intermediate contemporary classes with highly professional teachers, who understand how the human body works and how to help each individual to reach the desired results. Classes are designed to:
Ballet, Jazz-Modern and Contemporary dance studio in Parktown North. We offer classes for professional training, fun or exercise. All ages catered for.
In these one hour long classes we warm-up, work on some basic techniques and skills from that specific style (eg. Contemporary or Hip Hop), learn a short routine and end with stretching.
Modern Dance is the big umbrella under which various dance styles fall – each of which we incorporate in our classes (Jazz, Show Dance, Musical Theatre, Contemporary and Lyrical dance) to name a few.
Classes are based on a moderate amount of stretching. We use the Pilates principles of elongating the muscles and strengthening the body’s core.
The base of the class will be the Horton Technique, as well as Brigitte Reeve-Taylor’s Turns & Leaps training, combined with massage technique derived from the Lisa Howell flexibility programme.
There are a range of different characteristics for contemporary dance. Most notedly it is not a technique but rather an entire genre of dance. It includes bits of Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical and Modern dance. Strong leg work such as Ballet is common in Contemporary.
