Designed by ex-Ballet dancers this style is still technical but with much more focus on rounded shapes, floorwork, grounded movements, and expressiveness. Unlike the “prettier” Ballet style, Contemporary Dance can be unexpected and unusual but is still powerful and captivating.
Children from grade one at school and up can experience the earthy and strong flowing contemporary syllabus from ATOD. Be moved with this popular dance style. Classes are 1 hour in length and students have the opportunity learn techniques and performance items.
There will be several levels of this class on offer with an exciting ATOD syllabus in contemporary.
Contemporary is a strong technical style that stems from Ballet. With floor, corner and centre work there are multiple styles of contemporary taught. All contemporary students are required to do either one technique class (Ballet Ball) or two Ballet classes at IDS.
A very versatile and interpretive dance style, It was developed in the 20th century as a reaction against the strictness of ballet. Beautiful to watch it combines ballet, Lyrical, modern and free movement, contemporary can be danced to almost any style of music.
