Our Contemporary Dance Class focusses on the strength and control of the dancers legwork, utilising the technique taught in ballet and engaging the core.
Contemporary dance is an artform that uses human movement as its palette. We train the dancer to move as a whole being with particular attention to skills that bring extra awareness to the torso, getting in and out of the floor, improvisation and encouraging a thinking dancer.
Contemporary Dance is the exploration of the total movement potential of the body. It differs from commercial dance in that it is not bound by set standards or defined styles (such as ballet), however it combines elements of several dance genres including modern jazz lyrical and classical ballet.
Contemporary dance was born in the mid 20th Century, breaking free from the strict structure of classical ballet. Expect to find new ways to move your body and different ways to express yourself through dance.
