Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including hip hop,jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements, there is no distinct umbrella on what movement you have to place within a contemporary piece, therefore giving the choreographer and dancer free reign to be exploratory.

Contemporary is a dance form that grew and evolved with modern art movements. It has less strict form than ballet and exists in the ‘now’ with many personal expressions of form and possibility.
Contemporary builds a strong expressive, lyrical and dynamic dancer. There is lots of work on fluid movements, floorwork, and contractions as well as intricate combinations and big movement passages.
