Classes will be taught at an intermediate to advanced level.
For over 65 years, Martin School of Dance & Baton Twirling has set a standard of instruction in dance and baton twirling in Regina. Classes are offered in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical/Contemporary, Hip Hop, Stretch, Musical Theatre, Acrobatics, and Baton. Students consistently earn high marks in competitions and examinations.
In addition, the studio is the home of training and rehearsing the prestigious twirling group, the Sundown Optimist Baton Group (SOBG).
For dancers aged 8-18, Contemporary dance teaches combinations that incorporate control, balance and flexibility.
Dancers aged 12 and up will receive a 45 min. class once a week. Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires expression of strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics of the song.
This style of dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet.
While learning about professionalism and preparing students for university level material, the class is built around sophisticated modern work. Classes are based on the Limon and Graham traditions of modern dance as well as creative movement vocabulary.
The Academy's Contemporary Program is taught by Vancouver's most avant-garde professional artists and pushes our dancers to go beyond their natural limits.
