Contemporary & Lyrical Dance uses dance techniques and methods found in ballet, and modern dance and also draws from other philosophies of movement that are outside the realm of classical dance technique.

It is characterised by its versatility and can be danced to almost any style of music, or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement.
Contemporary & Lyrical dance tends to combine the strong and controlled legwork of ballet with modern dance's stress on the torso, and also employs contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance. Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used as well.
Students must have a minimum of 12 months of classical experience and be taking 2 classical ballet classes per week in conjunction with contemporary to be eligible.

Our contemporary classes are for the more serious advanced dancer from 7 years up. These classes work on both the traditional and commercial contemporary / lyrical styles giving our students the importance of technique and quality training needed for this style of dance.
Students are given a class each week on some of the main streams of Contemporary Technique from qualified Contemporary Teachers and Professionals.
