Our curriculum is designed around a strong foundation in Ballet technique and other supporting genres that allow students to become well-rounded dancers and artists.
Our unique Artistic Curriculum focuses on body awareness, coordination, musicality, performance quality, arts education, work ethic, endurance, sociability, individuality, self-empowerment, creativity, and confidence-building that shines through our dancers beyond just their technique.
Dance Institute of Washington (DIW) is the leading minority-led, pre-professional dance equity organization in Washington, DC.Through our innovative DIW Barnes Method, the industry’s proven model, our efforts impact and inspire racial and economic equity in dance locally, nationally and across the globe.
DIW supports students from underserved communities, balancing artistic excellence at the highest level while building life-long skills and confidence through compassion, empowerment, academic discipline, emotional support and nutritional guidance.
Students enrolled in the pre-professional division are placed in each level on a basis of individual improvement, technical ability, and work ethic.
The classes will include barre exercises for warm-up and to create strength in the legs and feet, stretching, turns, leaps and combinations.
?In this class, students will learn ballet terminology and basic ballet steps with proper technique. Students will spend time at the barre, in center and doing across the floor movement as they progress.
Ballet technique is the foundation for Jazz and Lyrical styles, thus we highly recommend that all our dancers take ballet. Â
Ballet Dance Classes are offered by Synergy Dance Studio.
