This one-year Diploma in Business Administration Co-op program is for students who want a successful career in business management.

Graduates can seek roles in a variety of different fields, including marketing, finance, human resources and management. This program is powered by Trailhead from Salesforce and Quickbooks.

 

Program Outcome:

  • Identify and understand the techniques and theories of successful businesses, including how to manage finance, fundamental principles of marketing and how to create effective strategies

  • Develop the necessary skills and knowledge to make an impact in the workplace, such as understanding the relationships between businesses and different local, national and global environments

  • Use cognitive and problem-solving skills to improve communication skills and operate effectively individually and as part of a team

  • Learn the ‘Manage the Salesforce Way’ to discover strategies and tools to be a great manager

  • Gain real business experience

  • Strengthen your resume with Canadian work experience

  • Co-op placement* or Capstone

 

The modules include:

  • Fundamentals of Business Communications:

This module will help you develop and enhance your written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills, time management skills and presentation techniques, to ensure success in any business environment. You will also learn to use Microsoft Office to help you operate more efficiently and be more productive. 

 

  • Principles of Accounting:

Emphasis will be placed on analyzing and recording business transactions using the rules of double-entry bookkeeping. In addition, you will learn to adjust journal entries and everyday transactions for both service and retail businesses and learn how these are recorded, coupled with the preparation of basic financial statements.

This course also provides a practical introduction to computerized accounting. You will learn to set up a computerized accounting environment and to convert a manual accounting system to a computerized one.

You will work with a variety of business simulations, providing hands-on experience with all aspects of work transactions in the general, payables and receivable ledgers.

 

  • Business Environment:

The aim of this module is to provide you with an understanding of different organizations, the influence of stakeholders and the relationship between businesses and the local, national and global environments.

As part of this module, you will also consider how different market structures shape the pricing and output decisions of businesses, as well as other aspects of their behavior.

 

  • Managing Financial Resources:

This course aims to provide you with an understanding of where and how to access sources of finance for a business and the skills to assess the business environment, interpret financial statements and use financial information for decision making.

 

  • Organizational Behaviour:

This module aims to provide you with an understanding of individual and group behavior in organizations. You will examine current theories and their application in managing behavior in the workplace.

You will also explore mechanisms for effective teamwork and the impact of technological innovations in organizational behavior. 

 

  • Marketing Principles:

This module will provide you with an understanding of concepts and principles that underpin the marketing process. You will explore the impact of the marketing mix elements on marketing decision- making and develop strategies based on the marketing objective.

 

  • Business Decision Making:

This course provides you with the opportunity to develop techniques for data gathering and storage and will give you an understanding of the statistical tools available to create and present useful information in order to make better business decisions. You will use current technological tools to produce and analyze information.

 

  • Research Project:

On this module, you will develop skills to independently conduct research based on a research proposal relevant to the program and profession.

You will also use the relevant research analysis tools and techniques to critically analyze and disseminate the data collected to make relevant recommendations, create reports and present your findings.  

 

  • Work Placement (Co-op):

After you successfully complete the academic requirements of the module, you are required to complete 480 hours of a program-relevant work placement. Business sectors you can take up a placement in include marketing, retail, finance and accounting, not-for-profit, customer care and administration.

Although skills required for the job will vary depending on the placement, the key responsibilities include being supervised at all times, observing all workplace and school safety and security procedures, dressing appropriately, interacting professionally with staff, learning about the work environment and participating in the daily routine as required by the employer.

A work placement has been incorporated into this diploma so you can put into practice the theoretical components of the program in practical learning situations and apply your skills to facilitate business operations.

We will help you secure your placement by sending you for interviews. Upon completion of your practicum, you are required to submit a placement report; an evaluation form will be completed by your supervisor in order for you to successfully graduate.
