Gain a flexible set of knowledge and skills that positions you for employment in industrial settings as well as careers in business and information technology.

Through theory, lab exercises, and hands-on projects such as construction of a power supply using electronic test equipment, fabrication equipment, and soldering you will learn the fundamentals of electronic and electrical components, and the devices and circuits used in industrial settings.

A work practicum placement gives you an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned and add to your skill-set through a real-world work experience and participation in MITT’s Bridging to Work workshops gives you a solid foundation in the employability and essential skills employers demand.

Who It Is For

Individuals who are critical thinkers and thrive on analysis and problem solving, who enjoy hands-on work and working with technology, and who are equally comfortable working alone or as part of a team.

Course Information

Work Skills Foundations is a self-directed course that helps you successfully transition into a post-secondary academic environment and navigate the cultural, academic, and work expectations you find there and in the workplace.

Work Skills Foundations will be open for students to complete, independently and online, as of two weeks prior to their program start date. Please note that completion is mandatory for graduation. Visit our Work Skills Foundations page for full information.

Entrance Requirements

Manitoba high school diploma (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date), or equivalent, including:

  • Grade 12 Math (40S) with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
  • Grade 12 English Language Arts (40S) with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.

Students needing to upgrade any of these high school requirements may contact one of MITT’s Adult Learning Centres (ALC).If educated outside of Canada, applicants must also have demonstrated English Language Proficiency.

Laptop Requirements

Students are required to have access to a Tier 2 laptop for this program. For more information and technical specifications, visit the Laptop and Technical Requirements page.

Applicants must also meet the program-specific requirements, including:

  • Senior level Math with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
  • Senior level First Language Literature with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.

All high school grades will be converted to an equivalent Manitoba grade scale.If educated outside of Canada, applicants must also have demonstrated English Language Proficiency.

Work Practicum

Students who meet all program-specific work practicum eligibility criteria qualify to participate in a four-week practicum placement.Work practicum is a mandatory component of this program.

Students must meet all program eligibility criteria to qualify for practicum.

MITT does not guarantee practicum placements when students do not meet eligibility criteria (including having a valid co-op work permit) or when sufficient placements are not available.

In such situations, MITT will explore alternative options for program completion with a student.

MITT continuously reviews and improves programs to maintain relevance in the workplace and effective learning experiences for all students.

Although the institution strives to have the website reflect the most current version of all programs, MITT reserves the right to change the program curriculum as necessary to meet industry and accreditation requirements.
