After a short classroom session and demonstration, you’ll be using our extinguishers to fight different classes of fire.
When we come to your site, we have our special F&ST purpose built trailer that opens up to reveal several fire scenarios including a switchboard, an oven, a stovetop and an office scenario.
Training is for a minimum of two hours or up to Unit Standard 3271, depending on your requirements. All extinguishers are supplied. Course numbers are a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 12 people. We offer subsidised training for Community Groups. Please discuss this with us.
Fire & Safety Training Ltd (F&ST) was established in 1998 by Gordon Ireland to provide quality, practical compliance training to industry. Gordon remains the Managing Director and although the business has grown and now employs eight trainers across the Timaru and Napier sites.

What do we do
Fire and Safety Training Ltd has been providing compliance training to suit specific industry needs since 1998. Our trainers are specialists with sound industry experience. Purpose built practical training facilities and offices are located in Timaru and Napier.
We travel to most paces in New Zealand to deliver courses on-site. Our courses are all NZQA approved and can be tailored to your specific needs. We also provide a range of specialist services to support industry.
Courses
Courses include working at height training, confined spaces and gas detection, hazard identification, rescue team training, dangerous goods license endorsement, breathing apparatus, fire extinguisher and evacuation warden training, handling hazardous substances and health and safety representative courses.
Our Trainers
Our trainers are all from industry backgrounds with extensive experience. Courses are lively: our trainers engage course participants with a blend of the required theory and hands-on realistic practical experience.
Feedback from all the courses we deliver is positive. Typical comments include: ‘very well explained’; ‘fun and informative’; and ‘eye opening to things I didn’t realise or think about’. Our extensive knowledge and experience in this sector ensures all our courses are based on current industry best practice.
Make sure your staff know how to use a fire extinguisher, which one to use and even have a go at putting out a small (controlled) fire! Our training session takes about 1-1.5hrs, depending on how many are training, and takes place on your premises.
Fire and Emergency Response training is so much more than just fire extinguisher training. We provide training and consultancy in Workplace Fire and Emergency Response, as well as assisting companies and organisations to write and implement their Workplace Fire and Emergency Response plans.
Workplace Warden course training is offered by Fire Rescue First Response for all skill level. Fire Rescue First Response are the foremost providers of safety training for First Aid, Fire Fighting, Health and safety, Industrial, Municipal and Medical Emergency Response Training.
Fire Warden course training is offered by Nelson Technical Institute for all skill level. Our team at Nelson Technical Institute have a strong knowledge base and a wealth of Industry experience.
Fire Warden course is offered by Safe On Site NZ Limited. The Safe On Site team are your local experts on Health and Safety consultancy and training. Safe On Site partner with TrackMe NZ to bring you industry leading remote worker safety systems with coverage anywhere your workers go.
