Fire is an insidious threat to life and business. Statistics would suggest that 75% of businesses suffering a major fire do not recover without a sound business continuity plan. It is better to take measures to prevent a fire than to suffer the consequences. This fire warden course will raise the awareness of fire hazards; examine fire prevention techniques, fire precautions and procedures.

 

Objectives:

On completion of the fire warden training course, delegates will:

  • Experience the use of appliances in ‘real’ fire situations

What the Law Requires:

  • An outline of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order

  • The main provisions

  • Duty of employers

 

Causes and Effects of Fire:

  • Chemistry of combustion

  • Fire spread

  • Classification of fires

  • Costs of fire

 

Fire Appliances and Control Systems:

Practical – Delegates will experience a fire in a controlled environment where they will be instructed on the selection and use of fire extinguishers.*
Delegates will be given an opportunity to use fire extinguishers.

 

Fire Risk Assessment:

  • The duty to conduct fire risk assessments

  • A brief introduction to fire risk assessment

  • Hazard identification and control measures

 

Emergency Procedures:

  • Means of escape

  • Fire/bomb threat drills

  • Fire registers

  • System testing

 

Role of Fire Warden:

  • Daily, weekly, and monthly routines

  • Action planning
