Who Should Attend?
Any appointed person for first aid
Those who wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures and a recognised First Aid qualification.
Course Content
Responsibilities of a first aider
Minimise the risk of infection
Conducting scene surveys
Basic life support (CPR)
Breathing management
Managing unconscious casualties
Assessing and treating wounds & bleeds
Treating anaphylaxis
Treating shock
Treating burns
Treating common major and minor illnesses
Managing choking
Record keeping and equipment use
Legal aspects and secondary surveys
Assessment Information
Students are assessed for this qualification by a multiple choice question paper and a practical observation.
First Aid Level 3 Multiple choice paper
40 minute examination consisting of 20 multiple choice type questions
A notional pass mark of 70% (14/20) is applied to this examination
First Aid Level 3 Practical observation
Attendees are required to demonstrate First Aid procedures as they would in a real work environment
(e.g. providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so)
The pass mark for this section of the assessment is 100%

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is a one-day module which will enable you to act with knowledge and confidence as an ‘Appointed Person’ in relation to First Aid in the workplace.
This is a nationally recognised award for Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW). It satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid - the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) if an organisations risk assessment deems the EFAW to be appropriate.
This one-day course meets the requirements of both the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.
The EFAW course is a suitable qualification for first aiders who are responsible for the first aid provision in small businesses, low risk workplace, or areas within a larger business that is low risk.
