All lessons start with breathing techniques and warm ups before moving on to play music. Choose from classical, contemporary, folk, celtic and pop/film genres or work towards your next ABRSM exam.
For students playing in ensembles, help and advice will also be offered on practising the repertoire.
It is preferable that you have your own instrument, however there is an option to rent a flute from HMMT until you are certain that you are comfortable and will be continuing. Get in touch for information about the best places to buy!

Hanah graduated from the University of Aberdeen in June 2015 with a 2:1 BMus (Hons) degree where she studied flute under Catherine O’Rourke and piano with Drew Tulloch.
Since moving back to Edinburgh, Hanah has worked for many music schools and services around the city including, Edinburgh School of Music, Key Player Yamaha Music Point, All About Music Education and the City of Edinburgh Council Adult Education Programme.
Hanah Mack Music Tuition has been based in Stockbridge since September 2016 and moved to the Banana Row Music Studios on Eyre Place in 2019. All lessons and classes are currently running online only.
Lessons are tailored specifically to each student’s needs and abilities. Students have been successfully put forward for ABRSM practical and music theory exams, as well as guiding students through the performance requirements of the SQA Music Performance exams.
The whistle is one of the easiest and cheapest instruments to learn. It is also highly portable and quick to master simple yet satisfying tunes and is a good stepping stone to learning the flute. We currently offer individual (1:1) whistle or flute lessons.
Our flute and piccolo lessons help our beginner students develop a basic understanding of breath control, dynamics, rhythmic and melodic notation.
You can learn to read music as part of the process, but you can also learn to play by ear if you prefer. We can teach any style from classical to jazz, including improvisation.
We offer private flute lessons in Southampton, Hampshire and surrounding areas for mixed ages and abilities. Our expert Music Maestros have many years of experience helping beginners, intermediates and advanced flute players improve their technique and performance.
