What’s It About?

This Level 1 Food Safety in Retail course introduces you to good food hygiene practices within a retail setting. It will give you a basic understanding of food safety so that you can work safely.

The course covers the importance of good personal hygiene and the essential elements of cleaning.  It also gives you an awareness of cross-contamination and how to prevent it.

What Will You Gain?

By attending this Level 1 Food Safety in Retail course, you will understand the basic requirements of food safety and hygiene within a retail environment.

In addition, you will know how to keep yourself and your work areas clean and hygienic.  You will understand the role they play in reducing cross-contamination within your working environment.

On returning to the workplace, you will know how to identify and report key food safety issues.

Who Should Attend?

This Level 1 Food Safety in Retail course is ideal for employees who have access to food areas, including check out staff or warehouse employees.

However, this course is not for those people who prepare and handle open food, including deli products, sandwiches and cakes.  We recommend that they undertake the Level 2 Award in Food Safety qualification.

Why’s It Important?

Employers have a legal obligation to comply with the stringent rules of the Food Safety Act 1990 and its associated Food Hygiene Regulations. It is these systems that are fundamental to a “due diligence” defence.

You also have to ensure they receive food safety training appropriate to their job role.

Therefore, failing to comply with these regulations can carry heavy penalties in the way of fines, poor staff morale, loss of business, a bad reputation and possibly even imprisonment.
