In the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, founded in 2001, is the hub of dance and music education in Brooklyn. The nine-studio building provides affordable classes in multiple genres for people of all ages, levels, with and without disabilities, accompanied by live music.
The studios, a performance space, a Wellness Center, and ancillary spaces are all available to the community and to nonprofit organizations at subsidized rates. MMDG’s Community Education Programs partner with public and private schools and community centers to provide customized classes.
MMDG also offers customized dance workshops for persons with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. MMDG programs in NYC and worldwide engage nearly 100,000 people annually.
This class focuses on various hip-hop techniques including popping, locking, and house elements. Students have opportunities to work on their own freestyle abilities. This class builds strength, stamina, and style through contemporary hip-hop movement.
This is a beginner level class recommended for students 5-6 years old. Dancers will learn across the floor hip hop steps to aid in coordination and knowledge of time and space as well as technical combinations to a variety of songs.
Hip Hop classes are offered by Ms Carol's Center For Dance. CCD and its Staff is dedicated to building character through dance and providing quality dance instruction at affordable prices.Â
Students will learn different dance styles and vocabulary of hip hop such as grooving, locking, popping, floating, urban, and freestyling. Students will practice the basic elements of hip hop dance through warm-up, conditioning, drills, repetition, and choreography improving their rhythm.
