Our bowl-making classes are suitable for complete beginners. We take a maximum of ten people per session. You will be working in pairs, one supporting the other, taking turns to complete each stage in the production of your own bowl. The trainer demonstrates the method before each step, then you work at your own pace with his guidance and supervision. We usually have a very balanced mix of men and women of different ages. Just over half of attendees come on their own and the vast majority have no previous experience.
You will be amazed at what you can do in five hours even if you have never handled woodworking tools before. Having shaped your bowl inside and out the colour and lustre of the chosen wood are brought out by high-speed but traditional finishing techniques. At the end of a busy and enjoyable day, you will have made something of form and beauty. We can help if you wish to progress further with turning or are interested in setting up your own workshop.
The Camden Town Shed is an association offering a workspace where users can work on practical projects or follow hobbies with others. The space is currently equipped for woodworking and hand-building in clay although we hope to extend that range.
Members decide when they come and what they do and enjoy learning from each other. The main sessions are for older people but other supervised sessions can be for over-18’s.
Although its free to attend the workshop is substantially funded by member donations, public courses and any items we make for sale. Members can come from anywhere in London.
This largely practical programme is for individuals who have a genuine interest in carpentry or joinery and wish to gain employment in the industry. Progression after the programme could be onto Level 2 Carpentry, Advanced Construction Award or employment in the industry; or an Apprenticeship.
This regular class in spoon carving introduces you to the art of carving with an axe, a knife and a crook knife. By carving a spoon, you can focus on becoming familiar with the tools of the craft without the pressure of knowing what to carve.
The Builder Training Centre (The BTC) offers high quality structured Carpentry Courses, which can be attended as a 5 day course during the week (Monday to Friday) or, for those that have commitments during the week, a weekend course (2 consecutive weekends).
