However, this is not compulsory. Generally jazz students who attend ballet lessons do receive higher exam marks.
Ballet provides a strong base for any technical dance form. Skaters, Gymnasts and other athletes (including rugby players) take ballet classes to improve their skills and strength.

The Dance Institute offers all RAD Ballet grades from Pre-Primary to Advanced, all NZAMD Jazz and Contemporary Levels and all SADTA Modern dance Levels as well as specialised Stretch and Strengthen classes.
Classes designed for anyone over 16 for anyone who is new to dance and those that have done a fair bit of dance.
The jazz dance classes at Shore Dance follow the American Jazz Dance Affiliation (A.J.D.A.) syllabus.
We start new students with a year of Beginner Jazz, a structured and informative introductory year.
For 4-6 year olds. This is a fun, engaging class which consists of warm ups, barre exercises, centre exercises, progressions and dances to engaging funky music. This class provides a fun introduction to modern jazz dance. This class is based on the NZAMD Pre grade jazz syllabus.
