Our jazz classes involve flexibility, fitness and enjoyment. As these classes are physically demanding, we recommend a background in movement such as ‘Introduction to Dance’ or gymnastics.
They cover isolations, flexibility and co-ordination. Different styles are taught over the year while keeping up with the latest ‘moves and grooves’ to Top 40 music.
Classes include many genres of modern dance for example: jazz, funk, hip hop and cabaret as well as encouraging the ability to develop the students own skills in choreography.
Founded in 1964,The Charlesworth Walsh Dance Centre teaches many styles of dance with an emphasis on strong technique. As students enjoy fitness, friendship and fun, they are introduced to the love of dance which lasts a lifetime.
Coupled with all of this, their self-discipline and self-confidence are enhanced, vital attributes for a successful life. Many graduates have continued into professional careers in the teaching of dance, theatrical performance, choreography and television. Charlesworth Walsh fosters a safe, caring environment for their students with qualified staff teaching in three conveniently located studios around the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
If you or your child is interested in dance, Charlesworth Walsh is a great place to start. If your child is interested in a career in dance, Charlesworth Walsh can take him or her from their first class to VCE level and a professional career.
The Charlesworth Walsh Dance Centre is a highly professional school catering to a wide variety of ages, talents, and abilities. Our director, Rosslyn Charlesworth, is a life member and fellow of the Imperial Society Of Teachers Of Dancing. She is also accredited to teach Cecchetti candidates.
We provide our students with the opportunity to participate in a full -length, professionally produced ‘End of Year Production’and encourage them to enter in competitions. Charlesworth Walsh Dance students learn stage craft from their participation in competitions and the ‘End of Year’ performances.
As our teachers are mostly graduates from our school, they fully understand our philosophy and aims. We cater not only for the student of professional dance, but also encourage every student to enjoy dance for fun, friendship, strength and fitness.
We are accredited to teach dance for VCE, an increasingly popular choice for our students in their VCE studies. The results have been excellent. Students who continue with dance during their VCE years generally achieve outstanding ENTER scores, facilitating entry to a number of University degree courses.
Jazz Dance Lessons are offered by Anita Coutts School of Dance. It is our belief that an individual and carefully balanced program prepared for each individual student, catering to their specific needs is what ensures the continued happiness of the students and their families year after year.
Skills such as leaps and turns are incorporated into choreographed routines which challenge the students as they focus on building a strong dance technique.
A jazz class starts with warm up, technical work in the centre and at the corner and the concludes with choreography.
These are progressively graded classes using the International Dance Technique syllabus.
Junior Jazz is a class that is for fun and fitness. Routines are taught to modern music and students learn to construct and remember different choreography each week.
