We teach Okinawan Goju Ryu as taught by Sensei Gogen Yamaguchi. Our focus is on Kata, Bunkai and Self Defence with Kumite especially competition forms as a secondary element.
Our Bunkai is pragmatic and practical with an emphasis on personal safety.
Within our school and it’s broader network we have the experience to create challenging yet achievable programs for everyone regardless of experience or ability.
Sometimes parents will enrol their child in our school because they have always wanted to train Martial Arts or have trained in the past themselves.
We encourage parents who do this to try classes themselves to see if our programs suite them and to understand the training their child in undertaking in greater detail.
Dan, Bea and Emily have trained together for many years in a number of clubs since Emily was four years old and Bea was seven.
We all particularly enjoy combined parent and child classes.
Ultimately, our goal is Kaizen or continual improvement.
Family Goju Karate-Do was founded in 2015 by Sensei Daniel Samuelsson and his two children, Sensei Bea and Sensei Emily. As a family Dan, Bea and Em have been teaching since 2009. Sensei Dan has been running Family Goju Karate full time since 2015. We have two main programs.
One for Primary School children and another for teens and Parents of children who train with us. We also understand that many families have one or more parents that travel for work or live regionally, we have developed online classes run over video conference.
So parents can keep up training with their kids while they are on site, or kids can keep up their training while travelling or in their lounge. Our entire training program is available online as a reference.
