This course addresses the challenges of creating equitable workplaces that comply with legislation and accommodate a diverse workforce. It equips managers to effectively handle cultural, gender, disability, age, and other differences in the workplace.
This unit responds to the challenges faced by employment relations, human resource and other managers in providing equitable workplaces that comply with legislative requirements and that are required to deal effectively with an increasingly diverse workforce with a range of cultural, gender, disability, age and other differences.
The central question addressed will be: "How can we understand the theories and practices that come under the broad headings of equity and diversity in the workplace, and what implications does this have for designing employment policies and practices that achieve equity, optimal productivity, innovation and job satisfaction outcomes?"
The unit will examine legislation, policies and practices in Australia and analyse organisational policies and practices. The unit will employ a combination of theoretical and experiential learning to encourage understanding of these processes, as well as practical skills in managing them.
The practical application of theory will be facilitated through problem based learning groups, case studies and research on organisations.
