This course provides a strong understanding of motivational interviewing including foundational concepts, processes, and skills that will engage clients to move towards change.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an approach designed to overcome ambivalence and support clients to develop and build their own argument for a particular change. MI is a client-centred approach which is simple but not easy.

It requires knowledge in both MI and the Stages of Change model, along with the development of a specific set of skills through practice. Agilec has extensive experience implementing MI in employment programs and services. This experience has resulted in the creation of three levels of MI training and coaching that is tailored to learners.

Level #1 - Dealing with Discord and Resistance (Two-Day Training):

This introduction to MI provides the learner with a strong understanding of motivational interviewing. Based in the theories of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Stages of Change, this training will help the learner to identify when resistance is present and develop skills to engage with the client, helping them to move past resistance toward change. Employment related videos are used throughout this training to reinforce learning and bring concepts to life.
