Course Details

Designed to develop a complete triple threat, Musical Theatre combines singing, acting and dancing into one electrifying class. This is a class for the most uninhibited entertainers who love to perform. Our professional teachers instruct students on how to excel and reach their full potential.

Early level students are taught how to support their voices with proper breathing techniques, practice musical scales to develop pitch and do exercises to help vocal control. In the acting portion of the program students explore various characters, dialects and accents and are helped to develop stage presence, confidence and characterization.

As students progress our instructors work on further developing their skills by improving pitch, tone, enunciation, projection, breathe control and much more. We take great care in selecting challenging and age appropriate Musical Theatre excerpts for each class.

In all levels, students take part in two separate Musical Theatre performances throughout the year. The first is at our Parent Open House in the winter and the second culminates in our year end performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. We’ll see you on stage!

  • Teacher's Experience
  • Jennifer Nychek has many years of dance experience in tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, and hip hop. Jennifer first began dancing at the age of 4 and joined the Shelley Shearer School of Dance when she was 12 years old. She has participated in the Canadian National Dance Championships and the Manitoba Dance Festival, as well as many dance workshops throughout her years of dance. Jennifer began assisting jazz and tap at Shelley Shearer in her mid-teen years, and has taught and co-taught levels 1-4 jazz and a wide range of levels of tap. For the past few years, Jennifer has worked closely with Roy Smith, assisting and co-teaching the advanced tap classes, and she has been choreographing tap solos for a number of years. Jennifer now works full-time at the Health Sciences Centre Rehabilitation Hospital as an Occupational Therapist; however, due to her love of dance and her many wonderful and memorable years at Shelley Shearer, she has been unable to fully retire from the dance world just yet. Jennifer continues to be involved with choreographing tap solos and assisting with the advanced tap class on a part-time basis. Jennifer’s inspiration stems from the dancers that she works with and the teachers that she has learned from along the way. She looks forward to the next year to come.
